About us

Founded in 2024

Surge Academics was founded in 2024.

Its two founding partners brought more than a decade of combined experience across tutoring, academic mentoring and university applications, developed through earlier operating cycles before Surge was established.

The premise remains simple: students perform better when every part of the journey serves a clear objective.

Our work is led from the United Kingdom and shaped by experience across British, Hong Kong and international education. We work closely with students and families across Asia, including those studying in the UK.

I

A student should never be made to work without understanding what the work is for.

Academic journeys are crowded with well-meant advice. We begin by deciding what is material to the objective, what is merely distracting, and where a student’s time will carry the greatest consequence.

II

We are direct about the distance between where a student stands and where they intend to go.

There is little value in disguising the difficulty of a competitive process. Our responsibility is to give an honest assessment, establish the standard required and remain closely involved while the student works towards it.

III

There is no virtue in following a template simply because it has worked for someone else.

We draw on experience without forcing students into a predetermined mould. Every recommendation must make sense for the individual, their circumstances and the future they are trying to build.

About the team

A UK-based academic and professional network.

Our team is drawn from Oxford, Cambridge and other leading universities, with experience spanning education, medicine, law, finance, research and related professional fields.

We remain a small team by design and work with only a handful of students in any given year. This allows us to know the detail of each case, remain close to the work and be honest about whether we are the right people to take it on.

We assemble support around the student and the objective. That may mean sustained work with one tutor, or the involvement of a specialist at a particular stage of an application, project or competition.

We do not publish individual team profiles. The quality of the work, not the visibility of the individual, is the relevant measure.

A private undertaking

Discretion by design.

We do not publish the identities of our clients, nor do we use individual students as marketing material. Their circumstances, ambitions and outcomes remain private.

Most of our engagements begin with an introduction. If you have found your way here through someone who knows our work, you will already understand why that discretion matters.

Many within our UK-based network are professionals and academics educated at Oxford, Cambridge and other leading institutions. Their expertise is made available to our students—not displayed for public consumption.

Forge ahead.

Excel beyond.
